Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance (NAMA)
NAMA’s mission is to restore and enhance an enduring marine
system supporting a healthy diversity and an abundance of marine
life and human uses through a self-organizing and self-governing
organization.
NAMA is a regional organization working with ecologically minded,
community based fishermen and fishing community advocates on
policy and market transformation. We are a fishermen-led
organization that promotes the social, economic, environmental
and food system contributions of small-scale, community based
fisheries. We advocate for policies and practices that will:
- Transform markets: Our programs and events facilitate direct connections between consumers and fishermen.
- Influence policy: We work with fishery managers to support small-scale, community-based fishers through policy decisions.
- Build community: We collaborate with like-minded fishing communities, food and farming activists, local economy advocates, academics, scientists, businesses and others interested in knowing where their food comes from, who catches/grows their food, and who are motivated to work to transform policies and flawed systems.
