ASBC/SVC CONGRATULATES PRESIDENT-ELECT

Media Release

WASHINGTON, D.C — The American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC) and Social Venture Circle (SVC), as well as the 250,000 responsible businesses we represent, congratulate President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their electoral victory.

ASBC is heartened by the fact that throughout their campaign, Biden and Harris demonstrated their commitment to dealing with the four critical challenges our nation faces to our health, our economy, racial justice and the existential threat posed to our planet by the climate crisis.

President-elect Biden has already taken the first steps to begin to corral the pandemic which has surged again in recent weeks, announcing a task force of scientific and medical experts to assist in developing his plan.  Biden has also indicated that as soon as he is sworn in, he plans to sign a series of executive orders to have the U.S. rejoin the Paris climate agreement and the World Health Organization, each of which President Trump ordered a withdrawal.

As an original member of We Are Still In, a coalition of governmental and non-government entities committed to following the Paris guidelines despite the Trump withdrawal, ASBC welcomes this initial step.

“The Biden campaign put dealing with the climate crisis front and center in its campaign, understanding its critical link to our health and our economy,” said ASBC CEO Jeffrey Hollender,  “Responsible businesses understand that our economic health is inextricably linked with ending this pandemic and taking the necessary steps to preserve our planet.”

ASBC also looks forward to working with the President-elect, his transition team and the Biden-Harris Administration to rescind as quickly as possible myriad other regulatory steps taken by the Trump Administration which reversed progress on a cleaner environment, a more just and equitable economy and access to health care.

“It will take time and hard work to undo the damage of the last four years,” said ASBC President David Levine, “but ASBC and the responsible businesses we represent are ready and eager to get started.”
