Business Leaders Praise Farm Bill
Keeps or Builds Support for Regenerative Agriculture, New and Minority Farmers, and Conservation

Media Release

Washington, DC – In response to President Trump signing the 2018 Farm Bill, the American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC) released the following statement. It may be attributed to CEO Hammad Atassi.

“ASBC is pleased that the 2018 Farm Bill keeps and, in some cases, even builds support for regenerative agriculture and diversity in ranch and farm ownership. While our country has much further to go in building the decentralized and diverse farm industry of the future, this is a positive step forward. It successfully balances the need to conserve the environment with the needs of ranchers and farmers – the most important goal of such policy.

“We are especially encouraged by provisions in the bill to support new farmers and minority farmers. Also, we appreciate that a proposal to cut conservation programs was not included and a number of protections for clean water were.

“While we want to see more explicit support for regenerative agriculture in future farm bills, we applaud the continued funding for several programs that support outreach, technical assistance, and research on sustainable and organic agriculture. Additionally, we are excited by the improvements to the existing conservation programs that will create more funding for farmers looking to adopt regenerative practices or make more holistic transitions to regenerative models.”
