Chief Communications Officer
Michael leads the offense and the defense of the American Sustainable Business Council in pursuit of reputation excellence for the organization and its members and partners.
Throughout his career he has orchestrated storytelling to shape and grow movements, in corporate governance reform and the rise of awareness and interest in B Corps, and across the food industry, including probiotics, bottled water, plant-based and organic food categories, all of which he helped to become multibillion dollar industries.
Michael’s extensive experience in communications includes more than 20 years with Danone during two tours of duty leading corporate communications and public relations. Until 2020 he led external communications for the North American subsidiaries of Danone which he helped grow from just one category and $800mm in yogurt sales to more than five categories including plant-based, organic, baby food and medical nutrition with sales above $6bn. All while becoming the world’s largest Certified B Corp.
Earlier in his career he also led corporate communications for Danone’s North American bottled water and specialty foods businesses, during which he helped grow the business from less than $100mm to more than $1bn for its Evian and other brands. Michael has also worked in the PR agency industry, including as Senior Vice President for Ruder Finn, and prior to this for a start-up organic food company, which was successfully sold to a multinational. He also worked for five years at the start of his career at Porter Novelli on behalf of beauty, retail and other clients.
Michael is a graduate of Vassar College, where he earned a B.A. in English, and he completed the MIT-Harvard Program on Negotiation, to shape his expertise in the art of managing challenging situations. He is an avid non-fiction reader and an enthusiastic runner throughout the parks of Manhattan where he lives with his wife and two children.
