John Anner, PhD (Senior Philanthropic Advisor — New York (and beyond!) @Movement Voter Project)

John has worked in the non-profit sector for over 30 years, with 20 of those years in the CEO position. He led Thrive Networks for 13 years, helping the organization expand to a dozen countries in Asia and Africa. He was also the founder and executive director of the Independent Press Association, and served as the board chair of the Coral Reef Alliance and the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights. He was previously the Publications Director of the Center for Third World Organizing. He has held interim roles as the CEO of the Dream Corps, CFO of the Kohala Institute, and COO of the Coleridge Initiative.

John’s PhD dissertation and research focused on the use of impact measurement as a critical success factor for social enterprises. He also holds an MS in international agricultural development. He was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mauritania, West Africa, and has also lived in Vietnam and Central America.
