Thomas Oppel

Maya Fano-Caroti
Policy Assistant

Maya Fano-Caroti is a former Policy Intern and now serves as a part-time Policy Assistant. She manages ASBC’s social media and has worked on the “Creating an Economic System that Works for All” report. She is currently getting her Bachelor’s degree from American University in International Studies, with a minor in International Business, and a minor in Economics. She has previous management experience as well as non-profit volunteer experience. 


Sriya Gottumukkula
Policy Intern

Sriya is currently working as a policy intern for ASBC. She recently graduated from NC State University with a bachelors in environmental science and is interested in climate change and sustainability sectors. She had previous experience in research, policy and technical analysis in topics related to energy access, organizational sustainability and adaptation and mitigation efforts of developing countries. She has also recently won an NC State Sustainability Brick Award for her contribution to sustainability both on campus and in the global community.  


Kathleen Hutton
Director, Digital Communications

Kathleen has over 16 years of non-profit experience working for environmental and university institutions. She has held various analytical, technical, and stewardship positions within development, communications, and marketing departments. Before joining ASBC, Kathleen was the Website and Social Media Senior Manager for Manomet


Michael Neuwirth
Chief Communications Officer

Michael leads the offense and the defense of the American Sustainable Business Council in pursuit of reputation excellence for the organization and its members and partners.

Throughout his career he has orchestrated storytelling to shape and grow movements, in corporate governance reform and the rise of awareness and interest in B Corps, and across the food industry, including probiotics, bottled water, plant-based and organic food categories, all of which he helped to become multibillion dollar industries.


Sajni Patel
Policy Intern

Sajni is studying finance and sustainability with a minor in entertainment, media, and technology at NYU Stern School of Business. She has been involved with mental health advocacy. She is interested in sustainable marketing and policy work addressing climate/energy and the circular economy. 


Carolyn Pincus
Director of Strategy

Previous to joining American Sustainable Business Council, Carolyn Pincus was a small business owner with fifteen years in the food and beverage industry. She holds an MBA in Sustainability with a focus on Circular Economy from Bard College, a Certificate in Global Affairs from NYU-SCPS and a BFA from Fordham University/Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, with a minor in Political Science. She also has six years’ experience working for non-profits, in the areas of education, arts, community development and social justice.


Asha Romaine
Policy Intern

Asha is currently working as a policy intern at ASBC. She is a rising junior at Vassar College majoring in Media Studies and has a passion for social justice. She spent two semesters volunteering at a non-profit, grassroots organization located in the Hudson Valley and has interest in public policy regarding sustainability.


Christian Sanchez
Policy Associate

Christian Sanchez is a social science researcher with experience in multilateral, non-profit and governmental organizations. As a consultant for prestigious institutions such as UN – Migrations and Colombia’s Attorney General, he has been able to document human rights violations against isolated communities that experienced the consequences of prolonged armed conflicts. With a background in political science and international relations, he is also interested in broader fields such as sustainability and policy making.


Ali-Reza Vahabzadeh
Vice President of Memberships & Chief of Staff to CEO

Ali-Reza “A.R.” Vahabzadeh is a solutions-geared organizational development professional with strong experience in relationship management and marketing. He has worked in business development and investor relations roles for companies such as Morgan Stanley, Citigroup and J.P. Morgan Chase in the U.S., Europe and Middle East.


Mary Wynn Ryan
Director of Marketing Communications

Mary Wynn Ryan is a hands-on marketing communications executive and award-winning editor, writer, and creative director with extensive experience in business associations, design/furnishings/building products, real estate/facilities and professional services. She has provided strategic planning, marketing communications and custom editorial for corporate and membership organizations of all sizes.
