Oceans Campaign Director, Greenpeace USA
John Hocevar serves as director of the Oceans Campaign at Greenpeace USA, overseeing the organization’s efforts to keep oceans healthy for future generations. Since joining Greenpeace in 2004, Hocevar has led a range of crucial projects supporting ocean health, including efforts to phase out single-use plastics, improve the sustainability of seafood sold in supermarkets, and establish a network of ocean sanctuaries. A licensed submarine pilot and experienced SCUBA diver, Hocevar has collaborated with scientists from the Arctic to the Antarctic. Prior to his work at Greenpeace, Hocevar co-founded and served as executive director of Students for a Free Tibet, concentrating on the intersection of human rights and environmental issues. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in evolutionary ecology from the University of Connecticut and a master’s degree from Nova University in marine biology with a focus on coral reef conservation.
